I grew up in Belgium, in a small village called Londerzeel. I have 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 half sister, 1 half brother and 2 stephbrothers. A big Family, right? This is me with my two brothers and sister before and now:
When I was a kid I loved Horse riding and drawing, skateboarding and I used to play music. I went to the elementary school in the village but after I started secondary school I realized this is not my style of studying. I’ve tried several schools, but I wanted to convince my parents of studying art.
When I discover the Art School in Ghent, I felt that I should do this. I was not the strange person in class anymore and this was my home. I moved to Ghent when I was about 16 years old, in a small studio and started my student life:
Art School Gent: http://www.kunstinstituut.be/nl/ – Here I had some basic training in drawing, painting, photography. My last year I did some experimentation with installations and had great results about my work. My inspiration that time was Hussein Chalayan. Here’s a picture of one of my works (about 10 years ago now)
Later I started Visual Arts (with Fashion) on KASK: http://schoolofartsgent.be. I discovered I should make my first exhibition. I was about 20 years when I studied here.
After I finished my studies I realized to find a job with art, it will not be easy. I started working in a local farm and hoped to earn some extra money with my art. At the same time I started a course in Digital media, illustrator and photoshop. I did this in Saint Nicolas, a city close to Antwerp.
At the same time I was having a great time with my small horse Cyaan:
He was such a great pony. He was quitte small for me and since I had a lot of time at the horse place I decided to sell him and to ride bigger horses. The girl who bought him is amazing, now she does a lot of tricks and shows: https://www.facebook.com/Teamcyaan?fref=ts
During this whole period from school until now I was always painting and outside at night. I did a lot of street art during these days but realized this will not make me survive this place without enough money. Still I love the night life.
In 2010 I had an accident with a horse, and broke my back. This was pretty painful and I needed to take a break from horse riding. This offered me the time to heal and to draw a lot! I learned more from reading books and watching documentaries.
I started looking for other work and in 2011 I found a great job in an Apple Premium Reseller. I learned a lot about computer stuff and had a good time with my colleges. http://www.switch.be In the evening I went to Photography school to learn more and to stay creative. I started working in the weekend for Party Industries as a Photographer:
At that time I’ve met some people in Amsterdam and slowly I was falling in love with this city. I started hanging out there a lot and did some small exhibitions in gallery’s. After a some time I started drawing in a Tattoo Shop in Amsterdam by Sunny Tattoo.
Unfortunately the shop had to close due to the financial situation of the owner. Too bad for me but I still have some friends there who gave me the opportunity to learn more about tattoo skills and drawing. Before I want to tattoo myself, I want to create my own style. Until then, I am just drawing drawing drawing.
In 2014 I found a job as an executive / lithographer in Belgium, Saint Nicolas. This is a very good job for me and hope to learn more in packaging and graphic design. I always wanted to learn more about printing and this is my perfect chance to do so.
In january 2015 I was brought to hospital because of sickness and pain. Until now we Are still in search of the right diagnoses. We already know that I have a neuro muscular disease, but we don’t know which one. It is quite hard not to be working and not to know what is going on. I am trying to be positive and do a lot of creative stuff while I am at home. I’ve started with hand lettering and knitting, more to follow 😉
I’ll keep you up to date 😉
